No blog last week as I was caught up in that whole back to normality, back to work thing that engulfs us when we get back from holiday.
As an aid to beating the post holiday blues I opened up my GNR pack to have a look at my race number and starting zone. I’ll admit to being disappointed to find that I have been allocated a position in pink zone J. This is the second to last starting group so makes running a decent time more difficult given the volume of runners ahead.

I brooded, pouted and threw some toys out of the cot. I didn’t want to be back at work and I certainly didn’t want to be in the pink zone. However as work pay me there was only one of these things I could attempt to change.
It was quite a tortuous process to find out how to go about querying a start position. Great Run aren’t so good at answering their emails, tweets or queries on their Facebook page. I did manage to track down a phone number and eventually got the info I needed. It’s possibly a sign of the times we live in that I tried all the social media, electronic ways of contacting them before the penny dropped and I dug a phone number out. Imagine actually talking to someone. Weird.
Should anyone else be in a similar predicament then you can write to Great Run at the address below enclosing your race number and proof of a half marathon time this year which justifies you being moved up the starting waves. I’ve sent mine in and hopefully should hear something shortly.

Now I need to do less moaning and more training. I’m a couple of long runs down so will get those made up this coming week. Apart from that I’ve got one eye on what’s coming after the GNR so am starting to build up my strength and conditioning work ahead of the Newcastle Stampede and Tough Mudder.
