So it's been a while since my first blog post which means I must have been busy! I've had a few races recently including Blaydon, Weetslade Relays, Track and Field and Tyne Bridge Harriers Grand Prix.
First of all was the Blaydon race, quite possibly the best race I've ever had! Finally all the hard work and training had paid off I managed to average 9:20min/mi pace which would have given me the sub 60 10km I've been chasing this year so hopefully it'll happen at the next 10km I do. The atmosphere was fantastic and despite the downpour I smiled from start to finish and straight to the pub afterwards!
I've been reviewing my training recently knowing there isn't too long to go to the Great North Run and I have been doing longer steadier runs to get the time on my feet as I learned a few things from the Edinburgh Half. I've also been doing some track work once a week to try to increase my speed. For those that don't do track training I would really advise you to give it a go, along with making you faster it brings back memories of school days and you can do your own session without having to think about what other people are doing around you. As part of Tyne Bridge Harriers we take part in a track and field league which means you can have a go and feel like an olympic athlete as you race around the track (I even had my Team GB tights on!) I took part in SIX events 200m, 400m, javelin, shot, 4x100m and 4x400m and I was knackered but I had a fantastic day and got a PB in the javelin.
So next in my plans is to test myself and move up a group with Tyne Bridge Harriers - running to me is all about pushing yourself and at the moment I'm firmly in my comfort zone so it's time to push myself out of it! I also have a few races coming up - Tynedale 10km, Great North 10km, Tynedale 10mile, Great North Run and Kielder 10km no doubt I'll be giving updates afterwards. If you see me - give me shout!!
