Well it’s nearly here, and there’s only one word to encapsulate how I’m feeling...YIKES! I’ve driven over the Tyne Bridge with its Bupa Great North Run banner; I’ve been keeping up-to-date with the Great North Run’s facebook statuses telling me how close it is, and again all I’m feeling is...YIKES!
However, I don’t actually feel as agitated about the GNR as I did about a month ago, I almost feel like I’m losing motivation at the final hurdle, only the thought of reaching my sub 2hr goal is spurring me on and the thought of finally achieving that goal after 3 months of training.

Training started on Tuesday this week (week 11!) with 6 miles at my half-marathon pace, which felt quite easy. It was originally supposed to be speedwork but my legs weren’t ready after the Jelly Tea on the Sunday, and I concluded that the Jelly Tea had already been a good dose of speedwork.
Wednesday was an easy 4 miles, followed by another 4 miles on Thursday which was supposed to be fartlek, but I was really lacking energy by then.
Saturday saw me attempt another Gateshead parkrun, which I finished in 26.15. It wasn’t my best attempt but I wasn’t really in the right mindset, and again I’d somehow ended up having fish and chips the night before, which seems to be a common occurrence the night before a parkrun, but which is not good for running!
The last run of the week was 6 miles, so I completed 2 parkruns as it’s a course close to my house and I thought I’d take advantage of doing hills in the 6 miles.
My legs are now tiring at the end of week 11 and I’m really glad I can ease up a bit now, with my mileage decreasing to one 4 miler this week and three 3 milers, as well as of course, a 13.1 mile run on Sunday-argh!
I’m now thinking of last minute race preparations, I’ve worked out what settings I’m having my watch on, after many previous attempts of working out what’s best, I’m trying to work out what clothes are best to run in, considering I’ll probably get very hot, and I should probably start to think about what to eat for optimum performance, although apart from carbs, I have no idea about nutrition otherwise!
Hope everyone has a good day on Sunday! Apparently we’re all in for some Autumnal weather, which I’m sure all runners will be glad to hear!
