Prolific racer Ian Harding, despite suffering from hayfaver and feeling tired after recent exertions, took the lead shortly after the start and was never headed in a field that had 328 finishers.
North East Runner profiled Ian back in March. To find out more about him click here.
The host club's Lee Bennett was first veteran, finishing in 4th place in 36.18. Only 20 seconds separated the first 4 with Tyne Bridge's Keith Smith taking the V45 section.
There was another dominant performance from a Morpeth Harrier in the ladies race as Jane Hodgson secured her 2nd local race victory (she also won the Clive Cookson 10K) after missing last week's Blaydon Race. Hodgson stuck behind eventual second placer Stacey Rogers of Wallsend for the half mile or so before turning the screw and pulling away to victory in 39.13 for 21st position overall. Rogers suffered from stomach cramps from around halfway but battled on to a clear second place from veteran Joanne Lee from Tynedale.
It was a good night and very well organised by Elswick Harriers. The results were produced very quickly by Jill Bennett and the presentation was done quickly and efficiently. The complimentary post race snack also went down well with all runners and a huge congratulations must go to everyone at Elswick for putting on such a successful, friendly event.
Well done to every that took part.
