Training total for the week just gone was a pitiful 12.6 miles, obviously well short of where I should be at this stage.
The reason for the low total was being on holiday and being unable, rather than unwilling to run. For most of the holiday I was sailing on a Gulet (a traditional Turkish boat) which had a tendency (which I had not anticipated) to moor at secluded bays that did not lend themselves to any form of running training. I only managed one run, which was a fast and hilly 8 mile trail run that ended with a swim back to the boat!

Once back on dry-land in Bodrum I thought my prospects would improve. Unfortunately the resort is not set up for distance runners, with paths blocked by pedestrians, street sellers, etc. Paths themselves were uneven and often vanished to leave you dangerously running alongside traffic. In addition I had a fall (first time I can remember falling over when it isn't icy) when I stumbled over a cracked and loose pavement. An intended 8 mile run was cut short at 4.6 miles.
I did manage to make use of the fitness room at the hotel. I hate running on a treadmill, as it feels very artificial and is extremely tedious. I have no idea how people go to the gym day after day.
I am unlikely to have lost much fitness and I was supposed to be on holiday after all, but I certainly won't have improved things with that training week. Hard work ahead of me, I think.
