Training this week has see me back up to 56 miles in total, after last week's lax efforts. Unfortunately, as I am off on holiday, I had to cram all of that into four-and-a-half days.
Three 6 mile runs, a 10 mile run with alternating 5 min bursts of speed (2 mins jogged recovery) in it and a longer tempo run all sandwiched the longest run I have done since June, a nice 20 miler. All of this has left my legs fairly broken. Thankfully the holiday should offer me some rest and recovery time.

For anyone who trains regularly, particularly if you are training for a specific event like the GNR, a holiday can produce anxiety over lost fitness. Something I have tried to do is get a few shorter runs in whilst away just to keep things ticking over. While on honeymoon in Hawaii I was up before sunrise to run up the side of a volcano, which is a pretty spectacular way to get in your runs! Even on a stag weekend in Krakow I managed a sneaky 10 miler along the river paths (obsessed, me?) These runs are often a good way to discover what the place you are staying has to offer and can give you a bit of 'me' time.
We'll see how I cope in 30-odd degree heat next week!
