Hello, sorry for the later update than most of the GNR bloggers, but training is going very well and that is partly why I haven’t had a chance to write a blog.
Following my introduction I have been training 6 days a week and loving it. I started off my training on the Sunday with a 10mile run with friends from the harriers in 1.36min, and felt great. Following this was my regular harrier session on a Tuesday (speed & hill session) though I didn’t put 100% into this session as I knew I was doing the Sunderland 5K on Wednesday. This paid off as I got a PB of 25.23min for a 5k and was very pleased with that as the conditions were very warm.

Thursday I went to the gym and did a class called Body Pump. I am hoping this will help with my core strength and fitness if I do this regularly, but only time will tell. Friday I was aching all over, but I dragged myself out for a 3mile run at around a 9min p/m pace. Saturday morning I gave beach Boot Camp a go because a friend has been telling me to come along for a while. It was a good laugh and I enjoyed it, but it was not the high level of intensity I was expecting. I ended the week with a rest day on Sunday and overall was very pleased with the week’s training and most of all I felt great.
Into the next week and I started the week with another session of Boot Camp, again I enjoyed it but I don’t think it was for me, so I think I will stick to Body Pump. Tuesday was the harrier club Summer Grand Prix, a 2mile handicapped race around the Rising Sun Park in Wallsend. It was hot, full of flies and I found it tough, but stuck it out and just grabbed a PB by a of couple seconds in 15.55min. Wednesday I returned to Body Pump and loved it, but I didn’t feel as achy the next day so I went to the usual Thursday night club session of 6-7miles at about 8.30-9min p/m pace. Friday and still feeling good, although a little tired, I went for a steady 9-10 min p/m pace run for 6.6miles with a friend who is also training for the GNR. It was a lovely, bright and sunny morning run, but I never feel quite right running early in the day, I suppose my body is used to running in the evening. Saturday was a rest day and Sunday it was back to Body Pump.
Overall the past couple weeks have been very good and I am feeling focused, motivated and fitter. I just hope it continues as it’s only about 6 weeks to go till the big day.
Will blog again sooner than last time to keep you updated on how this week’s training went.
Claire :)
