Hi, so as promised here is my next blog update, much sooner than the last.
This week has been overall another good week. It started off with a rest day on Monday as Tuesday was the Morpeth 10k. I arrived to the race on Tuesday evening feeling really nervous as I had never ran the course before and I had heard it was similar to the Tynedale 10k course, which is possibly my worst course for a 10k. I checked my handicap for our clubs Summer Road Race Grand Prix and went to the start line.

I arrived to the race on Tuesday evening feeling really nervous as I had never ran the course before and I had heard it was similar to the Tynedale 10k course, which is possibly my worst course for a 10k. I checked my handicap for our clubs Summer Road Race Grand Prix and went to the start line.
All I thought was just do your best and try to beat the handicap time. The race started and once I had done the first kilometre I started to settle into the race and felt comfortable, so I started using my watch to pace myself and use other people as targets to run with or catch up with. I got round the 2 lap course and when I knew the finish was near I just ran as fast as I could. I passed the finished line, stopped and checked my watch and I couldn’t believe it. I had run a PB for a 10k by 2.04min and had beat my handicap by over 5mins running it in 50.51min. I am over the moon and can now possibly see a sub 50min 10k in my sights one day after all.
Following this I went to circuit training on Wednesday despite feeling tired and a bit achy, but by Thursday I was really tired so I felt it would be best to have a rest day. The same happened on Friday, but as well as feeling tired my knees were really achy so I wrote this day off as another rest day. Saturday and I was feeling much better so I tried out some climbing for the first time with friends, which felt great for building strength and was really enjoyable. I then went for a 6 mile run on the way home. To my absolute shock I got home, checked my phone GPS app (as I had left my watch and headphones in the with it being a spur of the moment run) and I had ran 6.1 miles in 50.19min on my own with no watch or headphones to spur me on. I was over the moon again, but I am very surprised as I have been feeling tired this week especially since Morpeth 10k on Tuesday, so I am not sure where it came from. I ended the week by taking part in my running clubs track and field meeting on Sunday and did the 100m sprint in a time I wasn’t pleased with and I blame it on being tired and under prepared by not wearing my track spikes.
I aim to start next week with resting on Monday and then seeing where the week takes me, but I think it’s time for the 10k races to take a back seat and to start getting more miles in as the GNR is only 6 weeks to go!
Speak soon,
Claire :)
