After my race on Sunday my legs were a mess. Usually if I go into a race fit I recover quite quick and find I’m ready to train again by the Tuesday, however at Manchester last week I ran well to 5k then realized that I was going to have to dig deep to run a good time. By the time I finished my quads were mashed.
Prior to the race I was making a comeback from the blood clot in my eye, as well as this I had a few niggles going on in and around my Glutes. As I was racing I got a few shooting pains from my groin down my hamstrings and through my Glutes, by Tuesday this was getting really bad.

While at work, I have to spend a lot of time squatting down, but when I’d go to stand up I’d be locked and have to take a few steps to straighten up, I still went down to the track to train but I had to modify my session to manage anything at all. I did 3x1 lap of the fields down at Maiden Castle. The first lap was a struggle but I loosened off and ran ok.
I booked in to see Jason Ellis for a massage on Thursday, so Wednesday was a steady run, Thursday morning was a tempo run then off to see Jason in the Evening.
My legs were mashed from Sunday, Jason took great pleasure in my screams and F’ing. I told Jason about the shooting pains, after an examination Jason spotted that my Sacroiliac joint was tight, so lots of painful deep massage and stretching was in order. I’m still getting pains but I can feel it’s getting better.
Myself and Clare had a great day on Friday. Clare is doing her Masters in Sports science but also teaches at New College Durham, at the moment in the Public service department. She mostly lectures in Nutrition but has been asked to teach Navigation, something we are both rusty in, so on Friday we decided to Recee the route which she is planning on taking her students on.
The route goes from New College Durham and goes out through the fields to Witton Gilbert, then follows a river before heading back to the College. It was a hot day with clear blue skies and a light breeze.
Rather than walk it like she plans to do with her students we decided to jog walk it and treat it as an active recovery day. I haven’t used a compass for a lot of years but I was surprised at how quick it all came back to me.
The route follows public footpaths, but unfortunately they don’t get used very often so they were heavily over grown in places, mostly over grown with nettles!! We spent most of the route running through fields of Rape plants which looked very impressive against the blue skies.

After getting a bit over confident we found ourselves on the wrong side of a river, only one option left then, wet feet!!
I did offer to give Clare a piggy back, but she wasn’t having any of it.
We got back on track and followed the route card to the letter, we made no more mistakes and enjoyed the relaxed running. However our legs were stinging from nettle stings so we took the river again for another plodge to easy our stinging legs.

I tried a light session again on Saturday, an easy run with a few faster efforts thrown in to test out my Sacroiliac joint and legs. My legs felt good but on a couple of efforts my leg gave way on me because of my S.I. joint, it feels like it’s getting better, but I’m not sure if I can keep on top of it. I have Blaydon approaching fast and I’d like to run well there but I feel like I’m running out of time, I’d like to do the North east Masters track league 1500m on Monday, but I’ll have to see how I feel on the day
