Whitley Bay is the latest location in the ever expanding Parkrun series and with a huge turnout and a challenging but enjoyable course, it looks as though this venue will be one of the most popular in the region.

Local 'lad' Brian Rushworth won the annual Penshaw Hill Race, hosted by Sunderland Harriers, narrowly beating Morpeth's Nick Swinburn while it was a double celebration for Sunderland as Michelle Holt won the ladies race. The tough 3 mile off road course started at the bottom of Penshaw Hill and wound it's way up to the top before heading back down to do a couple of loops before a steep climb to the top again (see picture left). Saturday 9th June saw the 32nd running of the Blaydon Race. The famous race started at the bottom of Newcastle's Bigg Market and is steeped in Geordie tradition. This year's race has added significance as it celebrated the 150th anniversary of the event that the famous song was written about: ''Aw went to Blaydon Races, 'twas on the ninth of Joon,
