A thorough warm up is essential, whether you are going out for an easy run or competing in a race. Our resident training expert, Matt Wood BSc MA ASSC, looks at the importance of a good warm up and gives examples of some stretching and dynamic drills that should be done before a hard session or race. Many great athletes spend hours in the gym, time at the track or miles on the bike to improve their performances by perfecting their skills, sharpening their technique and strengthening their bodies. Yet, what happens when things do not go according to plan – either in their preparation or in their race – such as injury, other priorities or simply things happening on the day? Matt Wood BSc MA ASSC, is an Accredited Strength & Conditioning Coach with UKSCA as well as a L2/3 Athletics Coach. In his first article for North East Runner he considers how runners should optimise their strength and conditioning of the hamstrings. This is the first of a two part article with the next to be published early next week. |
